Focus On Making Money

On the surface, most investors should be happy after a multi-year bull market, yet most are fearful, disappointed, and confused about the performance of their investments. One of the prime detractors of performance is the media and its impact on our emotions and how we make investment decisions, which often have long-term consequences.

In this week’s edition of the Market & Portfolio Review, we evaluate the track record of the media over the past decade and its impact on client returns. Second, we are going to use the stock market and how it’s behaving to gauge where we are in the business cycle. Lastly, we will measure how much gas is left in the tank for energy stocks and the factors driving performance across the oil and gas space.

Key Takeaways

  1. We are in the early stages of an economic expansion
  2. Economically sensitive stocks tend to outperform during times of recovery
  3. Energy and financial stocks remain durable market leaders
